so…that…与such…that…是基础英语中的两个重要句型，也是高考的重要考点之一。使用这两个句型应注意以下三点：
一、意义与语法功能相同
so…that…与such…that…引导的都是结果状语从句，表示“如此……以致……”。例如：
He was so unfortunate that he lost both his parents in his childhood.
=He was such an unfortunate man that he lost both his parent-s in his childhood.他非常不幸，童年时代就失去了双亲。
This meeting is so important that every one of us should att-end it.
=This is such an important meeting that every one of us shou-ld attend it.这次会议是如此之重要，以致于我们每一个人都得出席。
二、结构与搭配不同
（一）so…that…句型的结构与搭配为：so＋形容词／副词＋that…。例如：
When I was on the stage the next day,I felt so nervous that I shook like a leaf.（NMET 2000短文改错题）第二天上舞台的时候，我感到格外紧张，以致于身体像树叶一样抖动。（so后面接形容词）
He ran so fast that I couldn't catch up with him.他跑得太快，我赶不上他。（so后面接副词）
（二）such…that…句型的结构与搭配为such…＋名词＋that…。该句型有三种情况：
1.such a/an＋形容词＋单数可数名词＋that…。例如：
She told us such an interesting story that we all forgot abo-ut the time.(MET 1988)她给我们讲了一个如此有趣的故事，结果我们都忘了时光的流逝。
2.such＋形容词＋复数可数名词＋that…。例如：
They are such difficult problems that I don't know how to se-ttle them.这些问题是如此复杂，以致于我不知道如何解决。
3.such＋形容词＋不可数名词＋that…。例如：
It is such fine weather that I want to go for an outing.今天天气是这么好，因此我想去效游。
但是so+many/much/few/little（少）＋名词＋that…应被视为特殊句型。其中的many,much,few,little为限定词，限定词必须位于名词之前，而且修饰这些限定词的应是so，而不是such。例如：
There're so many kinds of tape-recorders on sale that I can't make up my mind which to buy.(MET1992)市场上出售的录音机种类很多，以致于我拿不出主意要买哪一种。
Such a little boy has so little difficulty in working out th-is difficult problem that I admire him very much.这样小的一个男孩解这道题所遇到的困难是如此之少，以致于我很羡慕他。
三、句型转换与转换条件
（一）such a/an＋形容词＋名词＋that…句型可与so＋形容词＋a/an＋名词＋that…句型互换。进行这种转换时其中的名词必须是单数可数名词，不定冠词的位置也必须发生变化。例如：
He is such a clever boy that I like him very much.=He is so clever a boy that I like him very much.他是如此聪明的一个男孩，我很喜欢他。
（二）such…that…句型可与so…that…句型互换。so后面应跟形容词，句意及逻辑关系也要作适当调整。例如：
This flower is so beautiful that I like it very much.=This is such a beautiful flower that I like it very much.这朵花非常美丽，我很喜欢。
These flowers are so beautiful that I like them very much.=T-hese are such beautiful flowers that I like them very much.这些花非常漂亮，我非常喜欢。
（三）so…that…句型可与so that句型互换。
在so…that…句型中，so后面跟的中心词可以是副词，也可以是形容词。句型转换时，应根据句意及逻辑关系将整个句子结构作相应调整。例如：
He spoke so fast that I couldn't understand him.=He spoke ve-ry fast so that I couldn't understand him.他讲得如此之快，以致于我听不懂他的话。
His speech at the meeting was so encouraging that we all res-pected him very much.=His speech at the meeting was very cnco-uraging so that we all respected him very much.他在会上的讲演非常鼓舞人心，我们都对他肃然起敬。
（四）so…that…和such…that…句型可分别与such…as to do…和so…as to do句型互换。
such…as to do…与so…as to do句型中的动词不定式作结果状语。我们常将其译为“如此……以致……”。such后面的中心词为名词，so后面的中心词为形容词或副词。such…that…与so…that…句型中的主句主语和从句主语一致时，可分别与such…as to和so…as to…句型互换使用。例如：
He started so early that he got there two hous ahead of time.=He started so early as to get there two hours ahead of time.他出发得如此之早，结果提前两个小时赶到了那儿。
It was such a good answer that it interested everybody present.=It was such a good answer as to interest everybody present.这个回答如此之好，以致于在座的每一个人都很感兴趣。
四、注意so…that…句型与so that句型的区别
so…that…可引导结果状语从句，而so that句型可以引导结果状语从句，也可以引导目的状语从句。请比较：
He studied very hard so that he could pass the exam.他学习很努力以便能够通过这次考试。（so that引导目的状语从句）
He studied very hard,so that he passed the exam.他学习很努力，结果通过了这次考试。（so that引导结果状语从句）
